Remembering an Amazing Tribute From the DC Metro
Eight years ago, the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (aka WMATA) honored Kevin Sutherland’s memory and paid tribute to his photographic talent by installing a display of Kevin’s photography in the inside walkway of the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro station. Two large columns were wrapped with two collages (see below) of his photos taken in the DC area. This display was in place by July 4th, 2016 to commemorate one year since his passing and it remained in place throughout that summer.
Kevin was a self-taught photographer and he loved nothing better than honing his skills by photographing the architecture and monuments all around his adopted home of Washington D.C. And of course, his favorite building was the U.S. Capitol where he had interned for his Connecticut Congressman, Jim Himes. Kevin loved DC and the Capitol because they represented the foundation, the power, and the potential of our great American Experiment in representative government. He had dedicated himself to a life in public service in order to make this world a better place. He was just beginning that career in Washington when his life was cut short, but the example he set and the ripples from his all to short life continue to go outward in the legacy he left behind and in the legacy that we are working to expand with the KJS Legacy Project. Please visit The Legacy page to meet our awardees and see the work we are doing.
