Kevin Joseph Sutherland
Memorial Scholarship
Kevin grew up in Trumbull, Connecticut and was a 2009 graduate of Trumbull High School. In 2023, the KJS Legacy Project created the Trumbull High School Kevin Sutherland Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating student who will be attending a 4-year accredited college or university with a goal of majoring in Government, Public Affairs, or Political Science. The qualified candidate must have at least a 3.5 GPA and have a record of active involvement in civic oriented school groups such as We the People and Model UN and/or participation in local electoral politics. Preference will go to students with a displayed financial need as well as a student who is planning to attend a college or university in/or around our nation’s capital - following in Kevin’s footsteps.

Alexandra Munoz
Alexandra Munoz graduate from Trumbull High School in 2024. She is a native of Venezuela who escaped that country’s repressive, socialist regime with her parents and sibling looking for a better life. She thrived in the Trumbull Public School System and became very active in her adopted community. At THS, she served as President of the Student Council, was a member of the Model UN Club, the National Honor Society, the Italian Honor Society, and the National Society of High School Scholars. Alexandra is studying International Relations at Kevin’s alma mater, American University in Washington, D.C. with the goal of becoming a diplomat or an ambassador working to promote opportunities and make life better for those living under dysfunctional, oppressive governments.

Maggie Huang
Maggie is a proud member of the Trumbull High School We the People team as well as a firm believer in the value of equity and justice. Over the past year she served as President of the Shades diversity and equity union, spreading awareness of cultural heritage and advocating for a more inclusive community. Maggie is majoring in political science at Smith College with the hopes of working in the field of education policy.
