Mission Statement
The Kevin J Sutherland Legacy Project preserves Kevin’s memory by cultivating the kind of world he always envisioned before his tragic passing - a world where the disenfranchised and marginalized have an equal chance to pursue their dreams. Kevin believed in that more perfect union our forefathers dreamed of and he did everything in his power, in the short time he was with us, to make that a reality. The KJS Legacy Project aims to continue his life’s work with the same passion and humanity he brought to this world. We will never know what else Kevin could have done in this life, but we do know what he would have wanted to do and we will carry that torch for him.
Through scholarships and educational opportunities, we hope to do our small part in leveling the playing field for fellow citizens looking to get involved in government, politics, and public service. This mission spans Kevin’s hometown of Trumbull, CT and his adopted home of Washington, D.C.
The KJS Legacy Project is inspired by the aspiration often attributed to John Wesley: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” That is what Kevin would want us to do.
